Statement Regarding Auto-Pedestrian Crash on Meridiana Pkwy

The City of Iowa Colony is saddened to learn of the unfortunate and untimely accident that occurred on Meridiana Pkwy and Karsten Blvd on the evening of December 14, 2020. The City is always concerned for the safety of our citizens and visitors traveling through our City.

The portion of roadway where the accident occurred is outside of the city limits of Iowa Colony therefore the City has no jurisdiction over this portion of the roadway. This particular accident is being investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety. The City cannot answer any questions on the details of the crash and those seeking information in relation to this crash should contact the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The City of Iowa Colony strives to do everything possible to ensure a safe environment for everyone. The City of Iowa Colony, Brazoria County, and the developer in the area have an agreement to install three traffic signals on Meridiana Pkwy west of State Highway 288. One of those traffic signals will be located at the intersection where this accident occurred. Materials for the traffic signals have been ordered and construction is slated to begin in early 2021. These traffic signals should be completed in the summer of 2021.

The City of Iowa Colony will be contacting other local government entities with jurisdictions involved, specifically Brazoria County and the Texas Department of Transportation. We will be working to determine if anything can be done in the immediate future to improve traffic safety in this area prior to the traffic signals being installed.
