Arnetta Murray is the only child of Rev James & Oneder Hicks. Her parents have been married 60 years and they still live in the same house where Arnetta grew up in Houston, Tx. Her dad, a Baptist pastor instilled in Arnetta God, family, and service to the community. Arnetta is a graduate of LeTourneau University, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Business Management. She also has a master’s degree in education from Concordia University.
Arnetta is the proud mother of 5 grown children, Aaron (29), Rachel (27), Jared (25), and twins Larry & Lawrence (22). After an unwelcoming divorce, Arnetta decided to use her energy by getting involved with community activism. This led her to running for Brazoria County Commissioner and Alvin ISD School Board where she lost and learned. Then in 2019, Mayor Michael Byrum-Bratsen of Iowa Colony and Council appointed Arnetta to Position 2. While on council, Arnetta approved many ordinances. To name a few, improvements to public safety, economic advancement, and ensuring property taxes remain low. On November 3, 2020, Arnetta was voted in by a landslide and she’s serving her 2nd term as Councilwoman Position 2.
When Arnetta isn’t on the Council, she’s an educator at HISD, and a volunteer secretary for the Hermann Park Rotary Club of Houston. Rotary International is the largest service organization in the world. Their stated purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian service and to advance goodwill and peace around the world. It is a non-political and non-religious organization. Arnetta sits on the board for small cities of Texas Municipal League (TML). Arnetta is also a Children’s Choir Director at Windsor UMC where Suzette Caldwell is Senior Pastor. Arnetta Murray has testified numerous times before the Texas House and Senate and she’s a part of many community organizations (Community Change.org, NAACP, HUFAF). Arnetta has participated in many high-profile marches where change took place. Arnetta is 15-year resident in Brazoria County, and she is so grateful to be on the council of City of Iowa Colony. Wherever she goes she always has the City of Iowa Colony, Tx (Brazoria County) at the forefront.
