The Iowa Colony Police Department is currently accepting applications for the full-time position of Police Officer. Applicants must be TCOLE certified. This position is assigned to patrol duty and performs general duty police work in protecting and serving the community and properly enforcing laws and ordinances. 

Principle duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Performs patrol duties throughout the City of Iowa Colony in a vehicle, recognizing signs of criminal activity, and deterring such activity.
2. Conducts initial criminal investigations by securing and controlling crime scenes, locating and interviewing witnesses, victims, and suspects, and gathering evidence.
3. Performs traffic enforcement and crash investigations.
4. Makes arrests for violations of the law.
5. Respond to calls for service, both criminal and non-criminal nature.
6. Completes timely written reports that are clear, complete, and concise.
7. Assists the public with both criminal and non-criminal matters.
8. Performs other duties and fulfills responsibilities as assigned

Applicants should be in good physical and mental health and must be able to complete a physical, psychological, and drug screen. Applicants should also possess good communication skills, and problem-solving skills and be able to work any shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Applicants will undergo an extensive background investigation and review process.

Principle duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Answers emergency calls and non-emergency call requests from citizens or agencies to determine if the call is to be dispatched, handled over the telephone, or routed to another department
2. Enters service calls into the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system
3. Dispatches the appropriate police and fire/EMS apparatus
4. Perform other related work as required
