COVID-19 Disaster Declaration

MAYOR ISSUES DECLARATION OF LOCAL STATE OF DISASTER IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19 OUTBREAK

Iowa Colony, TX – March 18, 2020 – On March 18, 2020 City of Iowa Colony Mayor Michael Byrum-Bratsen signed a Mayoral Declaration of Local State of Disaster due to Public Health Emergency in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. This declaration follows disaster declarations by the President of the United States, the Texas Governor, and the Brazoria County Judge.

The City of Iowa Colony currently has no known cases of COVID-19, but the declaration allows the city of allocate resources and set rules to help prevent spread of the disease. The declaration limits the size of gatherings to not more than ten (10) people and mandates the cancellation of all such gatherings until further notice.

Mayor Michael Byrum-Bratsen urges all citizens to follow guidelines issued by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help slow the spread of the virus. Further information can be found by visiting our website at www.cityofiowacolony.com or the CDC’s website at www.cdc.gov.
