FEMA Individual Assistance Denials

The Brazoria County Office of Emergency Management has received reports from partners at Texas Division of Emergency Management that a large group of Texans that are applying for FEMA Individual Assistance are being denied. They are answering one simple question wrong which is causing mass denial letters going out. When filling out the application they are checking the box: “Flood or flooding” and they should be choosing “Snow & Ice Event".

Please do not give up on your application as FEMA is notorious for sending denial letters for even the smallest issue. Even after you get a denial letter, there is still an appeal process they can go thru for the denial.

“Never give up is the message of the day!”

As a reminder, Brazoria County, including the City of Iowa Colony and surrounding areas, has received a major disaster deceleration from the President. This opens to way for individuals to directly receive assistance from FEMA through their Individual Assistance program. Individuals seeking assistance under FEMA's Individual Assistance program may find information by clicking here or calling either 1-800-621-3362 or 1-800-462-7585. The Individual Assistance program is a direct assistance program from FEMA to the individual.
